Every house in Sittong has a garden and every garden has orange trees. The whole village turns onto yellow during the winter. Visiting Sittong is like time travelling – there’s a bamboo bridge, a church, some winding village paths skirting through orange orchards and few meandering streams and a rivulet, which the locals love to call Riyang River.However Sittong has much more to offer to the tourists apart from its oranges. nature is at its pristine best and bestowed Sittong with its bounty. The area is not very touristic yet and visitors can enjoy the beauty of nature unaffected by the vices of modern tourism.

Location

The hill cart road connecting Darjeeling with the plains, and Teesta river, the lifeline of the region, geographically can be considered as almost two parallel lines. If you imagine a line connecting Kurseong on the Hill cart road and Kalijhora besides the Teesta river to form an imaginary H, Sittong is exactly in the middle of this connecting line.

How To Reach

By Air : Bagdogra airport is situated around 56 km from the town. It takes about 2 hours 15 minutes to reach depending on the road condition.

By Rail : The major stations – Siliguri is 48 km and NJP is 52 km from Sittong. From the stations, one has to book the cabs. The cabs take about 2 hours to reach depending on the road condition.

Best Time To Visit

November, December and January is the best time to see oranges is Sitong. The orange harvest takes place during late December and early January. As Sittong is located around 4000 feet above sea level so it is also a nice place to beat the heat during the according summers. The rivers and streams get filled after the rains and the lush greenery is something not to be missed during the monsoons in Sittong.
